The Vulcan 558 Club, now the
Vulcan to The Sky Club, was launched in May 1997 in response to the public's
continuing interest in the ongoing activities and future preservation status of
what was the RAF's last flying Avro Vulcan, XH558, at its home at Bruntingthorpe
Airfield near Lutterworth in South Leicestershire.
Since 1997 the Club
and its members have worked hard to help promote the preservation status of
XH558 during its years as an exhibition and ground-running 'aircraft' as part of
the British Aviation Heritage collection.
Since 1999 the Club has been actively supporting the XH558 Return to Flight project by way of its continual promotion of the aircraft at air shows and other public events. This support has been reinforced by the Club's fundraising efforts in support of, firstly the Vulcan Operating Company (VOC), and, then latterly the Vulcan to the Sky (VTTS) campaign.
In year 2000 the Club formally registered this support to the
Project by registering itself as a VOC Founding Sponsor. The Club has not only
honoured its Founding Sponsor pledge of £25,000 but has increased its direct
cash donation to the project by another £7,250 thanks to a second successful
Grand Draw, and continues these fund raising support activities.
