About The Club

About The Club The Vulcan 558 Club, now the Vulcan to The Sky Club, was launched in May 1997 in response to the public's continuing interest in the ongoing activities and future preservation status of what was the RAF's last flying Avro Vulcan, XH558, at its home at Bruntingthorpe Airfield near Lutterworth in South Leicestershire.

Since 1997 the Club and its members have worked hard to help promote the preservation status of XH558 during its years as an exhibition and ground-running 'aircraft' as part of the British Aviation Heritage collection.

Since 1999 the Club has been actively supporting the XH558 Return to Flight project by way of its continual promotion of the aircraft at air shows and other public events. This support has been reinforced by the Club's fundraising efforts in support of, firstly the Vulcan Operating Company (VOC), and, then latterly the Vulcan to the Sky (VTTS) campaign.

In year 2000 the Club formally registered this support to the Project by registering itself as a VOC Founding Sponsor. The Club has not only honoured its Founding Sponsor pledge of £25,000 but has increased its direct cash donation to the project by another £7,250 thanks to a second successful Grand Draw, and continues these fund raising support activities.

The Club also arranges for members to meet together by holding Social events at venues which include Bruntingthorpe airfield, and also organises member's visits to other aviation facilities and institutions.

Rallying the Membership........    (With 36 Replies)

OK all, I have had a long hard look at the report and figures presented to us (nice to see something in public) and I firmly believe it is down to the core supporters here to raise the profile of the project and to support Michael Trotter as he seeks additional sponsorship. We have a matter of months, before the money runs out, so lets see what we can do!!! Here is a quick outline of easy things to do..... · Make a Donation via e-donate · Join the Standing Order Scheme. · Join the Flying Fund Draw · Recruit at least one extra member · Buy Merchandise from the on-line store · Distribute “Get Involved” Leaflets in your area and in Xmas Cards · Recycle your Mobile Phones and Ink Cartridges · Support the Stall at Lincoln Christmas Market and the Xmas Party · Promote / Talk about the project at every logical opportunity. The facts are there... it is down to us !!!!!! (A bit of luck along the way would be nice as well) ONWARDS & UPWARDS Ian.

I hope you're all sitting down...    (With 38 Replies)

As many of you may have guessed by now, I’m not frightened to speak my mind on various issues – and have done so regularly over the past months. I realise that some of you might agree with my own views, whilst others disagree – viva free speech! Sitting down? saracenman feels somewhat upbeat and positive about ‘things’ at the moment! I will gladly admit to having voiced my doubts and concerns about the effectiveness of TVOC management, and (when I know that I’ve had evidence to support my claims) have named various individuals concerned. The past few days however, have altered my overall perception of the future prospects for 558 considerably, chiefly thanks to the appointment of Michael Trotter as our new Commercial Manager. I have had the pleasure of speaking with him at some length about the current situation, the future of 558, and his own ‘take’ on things. All that needs to be said is that at last, the right noises appear to be coming from the right places! My ‘...
